Markiplier is easily one of the most well-known and beloved YouTubers, and that means a lot of fan art has been created of him throughout the years. After receiving hundreds of drawings, paintings, and other illustrations from fans, Markiplier decided to switch things up and make his own fan art. Even as someone as talented as Markiplier is, it seems that there are some things he’s not very gifted with.
So, can Markiplier draw? Let’s find out.
Mark Edward Fischbach, better known to the world as Markiplier, is a YouTuber with a longstanding history of “Let’s Play” style videos. He has a successful career as an online personality, video gamer, commentator, comedian, and actor. Though his girlfriend, Amy Nelson (Peebles), is a game and graphic designer, Fischbach himself rarely showed off his artistic side. Fans started to wonder, “Can Markiplier draw?”
He decided to answer that question a few years ago.
On January 12, 2017, Fischbach uploaded a video called “Markiplier Makes Fanart,” where he attempted to draw three pieces of art for some of his most favorite YouTube channels. About 3 minutes into the video, Markiplier admits that he cannot draw very well, so instead of using Adobe Photoshop to create his artwork, he uses MS Paint.
It takes him a few seconds to even figure out how to draw on a black background. Once he does, Mark starts haphazardly drawing his first masterpiece. “Maybe a hint of the other eye on the cross—ooh. Oh, whatever, I’m not going to go back,” Fischbach states when looking at the mistake he just made. From there, the bird he wanted to draw for Kurzgesagt – in a nutshell ends up looking like an awfully busty chicken.
Starting on another project 8 minutes in, Markiplier once again laughs and exclaims, “I can’t draw!”
But that wasn’t his sole attempt at being artistic. On June 30, 2017, Markiplier returns again with “Markiplier Makes: Art.” This is a slightly different video, in which Fischbach picks up a palette, some paints and a French-German-Swedish accent. He partners up with Tyler and Ethan to create portraits of one another. The results are utterly hilarious and look like the work of a three-year-old loose with a Sharpie.
Some other artistic things that Fischbach tries his hand at include tie-dying a shirt (blindfolded), decorating Easter eggs, and fingernail nail art. Again, the end result of each of these “Markiplier Makes” videos is more funny than successful — but that’s why fans keep coming back for more.
Drawing Skill — The Verdict
So, does Markiplier draw? In short, yes, he does. Anyone can draw, but the question is whether they can draw well. If you prefer an abstract view of the world, then perhaps you will consider Markiplier as the next Pablo Picasso. Yet, as his videos demonstrate, Markiplier is not a skilled artist. His attempts, however, are heartwarming and comical. Let’s hope he continues to cheer us with his artistic attempts.
