Can PewDiePie Play Guitar?

YouTube personality PewDiePie has been the subject of quite a bit of controversy over the years. Regardless, the Swedish comedian and internet personality continues to be a hot topic online, with many fans wondering: Can PewDiePie play guitar?

For several years, a guitar has appeared to be mounted on the wall behind Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg, the streaming star also known as PewDiePie, as he films his well-known YouTube videos from his home studio.

And yet, few viewers have ever seen the YouTube personality even pick it up. Is this guitar purely for decoration, or does PewDiePie have a hidden talent?

Fans demand answers

For years, the subreddit r/PewDiePieSubmissions has been inundated with fans suggesting that Kjellberg should take down his guitar and strum a tune to prove he was capable.

In many ways, the subject became a meme, with plenty of people questioning whether the guitar was purely a decorative piece. This would have been surprising, as the instrument in question appears to be a Gibson Les Paul Custom, which carries a hefty price tag.

Thankfully, fans finally got an answer to the age-old question in 2018, nearly eight years after his YouTube debut.

PewDiePie finally plays a tune

In August 2018, PewDiePie dismounted his custom guitar to play a cover of Luis Fonsi’s “Despacito.” Some fans praised the cover, which Kjellberg sings on while showing off his impressive but limited guitar skills.

Although he can certainly carry a tune, many people felt that PewDiePie’s vocals left something to be desired. He also seemed to be struggling to remember guitar chords throughout his performance. That might explain why we haven’t seen much on the guitar from the YouTuber in the past couple of years.

Unfortunately, the YouTube video was taken down for being too close to the original “Despacito.” Whoops! PewDiePie says that 21 parties laid claim to the musical property, but in a video uploaded shortly after the incident, he countered by saying, “I’ll fight this. I’ll take it to court.”

It’s clear that Kjellberg has not been successful in this claim thus far. While PewDiePie’s original guitar video is no longer available on his YouTube channel, fans have reposted the performance across the internet. It’s one of the few guitar videos he’s made since 2018, leaving fans with only occasional tidbits of his musical talent since 2018.

The final verdict

PewDiePie’s wall-mounted guitar appears to be used for more than decoration. While PewDiePie has most likely taken a few lessons and can strum a few chords, it doesn’t seem to be his most impressive talent. We’re unlikely to see many guitar covers from the YouTuber in the future.

However, this also hasn’t stopped the memes from rolling in, as fans continue to request guitar covers of their favorite songs.

As the YouTuber continues to revamp and revise his vision for his channel over the years, we might see additional talents emerge from PewDiePie’s YouTube channel. As for the guitar, however—don’t expect it to come off the wall again any time soon.
